I’ve put together 100 easy sewing patterns BUT with a twist.
Don’t worry it ain’t a CATCH (twist) it’s a GOOD twist (in your favour)!
The twist is simple. You can figure out where you are with your sewing skills and abilities using the graphic below in the article.
Then depending on the ‘level’ you find yourself to fall under try to stick to any patterns in that range until you feel confident enough to move on to the next.
I wanted to give you this as a means to be able to gauge your progress so that you can feel like you are evolving in your sewing.
I think that it’s important to feel a sense of accomplishment with whatever we do AND especially with sewing because it helps in keeping us on track for longer and not give up!
Because until you do sewing my friend, you will quickly learn that sewing requires A LOT of patience AND I ain’t risking losing you before you get a good feel of what sewing really is like.
There really is something sweet and tasteful about sewing and in particular being able to sew your own clothes that, I can’t fully explain about so, until you reach to that point you wouldn’t know.
In the meantime, I will help you to keep on track and not give up.
Where would you say you’re at with your sewing skill level?
What sort of easy patterns can you expect to find in the list?
You can find all sorts from; trousers, to skirts, dresses, tops to even vintage wear!
What makes this list fantastic is that you will find something wearable in whichever level you fall under.
I have included a mix of the Classic patterns and Indie Patterns as well as FREE downloadable PDF patterns too.
So, that the hesitant beginners out there don’t have an excuse for getting started;)
What is a classic sewing pattern?
Classic sewing patterns are your traditional; Simplicity, NewLook, McCalls, KwikSew, Butterick Patterns.
They are the pattern companies that have been around for the longest time. That typically come in an envelope with the patterns graded and printed on tissue paper.
Reading them for the first time on your own can be quite a task but highly recommend you watch this video by Astar’s Place demonstrating how these work. It’s the video I watched and enjoyed learning from when I was getting started in learning how these patterns work!
Also If you need help picking a size then I have an article about how to take body measurements for patterns to help you with that.
What is an indie pattern?
Some Notes:
- Some free downloadable PDF patterns may require you to provide your email first then only they will send it to you. My thought is that if you can get your hands on a free pattern from which you can make many possible pieces to add to your collection then giving away the email is totally worth it;)
- Don’t be alarmed when you see that some patterns in the list below can be accessed going through a site called AllFree Sewing because “credit has to go to the source I discovered the pattern, right?”
